Reworking Old Content for a New Audience + The Reworking Roadmap Download!
When it comes to reworking old content, I’m sure you’ve read every article on “offering free downloads”, “finding your niche”, “write epic posts”, “collect emails”, etc. You can’t see me right now…but I’m rolling my eyes. Those kinds of articles are a dime a dozen on the interwebs, and only about A HANDFUL of their authors have a unique spin. Don’t get me wrong!! The information is great! It’s just…not…new.
Anyhoo…I won’t digress. But what do I do to keep my content fresh? Ummm….recycle it? 🙂
I have a list that I use for EVERY blog post I publish. I call it my “reworked roadmap”! And because I love all of your shiny digital faces…I’m giving it to you!! You can grab it below, or you can click the button in the side bar to sign up for all of the Uncork Your Dork freebies at once! 🙂
Remember, not all of these formats will be suited to your topic…but most are. As I decide which format to rework my content, I create templates for covers in Canva and Indesign. That way, I can use those to create a branded feel for every piece of media I put out. And remember…the quality of these should be amazing!!!! These are going to live on people’s desktops and browsers…so make them great!!!
One thing to remember, is that having different types of content based on one topic will only draw in different types of audiences! As someone with a learning disability…I MOST DEFINITELY understand the value of having my available learning style at my finger tips! Whether a follower prefers to read, watch, listen or actively participate in the steps to get to an end…create content that will get them there the easiest!
(Any links with the ** symbols are affiliate links! I don’t recommend anything that I don’t use and love 110%, but please feel free to use the direct link for the company! 🙂 If you’re happy, I’m thrilled!)
THE BLOG POST
I focus, first, on the blog post. Write your blog post with every bit of information you can POSSIBLY give them. That means paragraphs and paragraphs!! (I go over this in the basics section of the SEO Course in more detail but….the BEST optimized posts should be around 1,500 - 1,800 words in length.) Give them so much organized information, their brain explodes!
CHECKLISTS
Once I’ve hit publish on that, I move onto checklists! What kind of “checklist” can I create from this content? Trust me…you can create a checklist of SOME KIND! Think “steps” to accomplish what it was you wrote about! Hell…you can even create checklists for smaller topics you cover within the post! For instance, if you write a blog post abooooout…”5 Types of Comment Styles That Will Get You Traffic”. I could create checklists like “steps to finding the right commenting platform”, “Top 10 Ways to Entice Commentors On Social Media”…that kinda thing.
WORKSHEETS
My next form of media is a worksheet. I. LOVE. WORKSHEETS!!! If you haven’t downloaded the worksheet for this post…make sure you do!!!! Worksheets simply make your blog post ACTIONABLE! For example…let’s take the “commenting” article again! An ideal worksheet for that would be “Tracking Analytics Based on Comments”.
To prove that my methods work…I created a worksheet that allowed the downloader to log where and when they made a comment. I gave them specific instructions on HOW to phrase their comment, and to try to create a conversation on no less than 10 blogs a week. From those directions, they need to keep track of how many visits they get from the other blog’s site, and if they receive any special requests…collaboration…guest posts…that kind of thing. Don’t forget, you can sign up for the downloads library and get access to EVERY actionable worksheet I’ve created and will create in the future! Everything gets added there!
THE PDF
Whew!! Movin on down the list!! From the worksheet (heart emoticon), I move onto the PDF! I LITERALLY take the blog post…and make a downloadable PDF out of it. Now, this sounds weird…but hang with me for a second! You can use these a couple of different ways! On my old blog…I had a link at the top of every post inviting readers to download it into a PDF format. This was for the readers that just…didn’t have the time to read it and didn’t want to keep a tab open. They give me their email address…I give them a pretty pdf.
You can also use this pdf as another freebie, perhaps in your free downloads library. You can also give the article as an incentive to OTHER bloggers! If they’ve written an article that is related to your topic on their own blog posts…shoot them an email and ask them if they’d like to join forces! They can offer YOUR free download on their post! You tell your readers you’ve been featured, it’s not considered duplicate content by search engines AND you’ve made a new blogging friend!
(For this one…make sure you work out with the blogger whether or not your free download will be behind an email collection wall…yours, theirs, or none at all. Personally, I recommend none at all!! For me…this tactic is SOLELY to get intrigued visitors to your blog. You can collect their email addresses when they get to your space!! ALSO…make sure the blogger you are working with KNOWS that this article HAS been posted on your blog.)
AN EMAIL COURSE
Next on the list? An email course! This is a great way to build your email list…AND start cementing your niche and trustability!! Can you take the content of your blog post and create a mini 5-10 free email course breaking down your topic? Are you giving your readers information that can be broken down into actionable steps?
When you do this, create a button in your sidebar linking to your email course! I also recommend the plugins “Optin” and “PopupAlly”. Those will give your customers the ability to opt in to your course throughout every blog post and as they are leaving your website. Both are free! You’ll want to create a blog post about the mini-course as well! This will make sharing in Facebook groups and on social media easier for your readers!
There are a ton of email clients out there for newsletters and automated and trigger based emails…but I use a company called GetResponse**. They make it SUPER easy to understand and create an automated sequence for your readers! I’m dead serious when I say this is one of the best automation tools in my arsenal.

NEWSLETTER
Alrighty…next on the list. If you’ve created an email course…you may not want to do this one, due to redundancy. But if you have a weekly newsletter, consider making this blog post your topic for your next broadcast! It shouldn’t be word for word what is in your blog post…and remember, images and too many links will tell email clients that you are either spam or a promotional email. Keep it text and logo only with only the important links…and you’ll be golden. The best way’s to use a newsletter is to give very short, to the point “how-to” type information. SO, you can take your best two-three paragraphs from your blog post…write an opening and a closing sentence, and voila!!! A WUNDERBAR newsletter!
VIDEO
This is one of my faves…and one we’ve already touched on a bit! VIDEO!! Video DID indeed kill the radio star…so it’s time to step up to the camera, my friends. This method of repurposing blog posts is a GREAT way to rip off the proverbial camera shy band aid! The goal here is not to host a webinar or talk for hours. It’s talk for 5 minutes on camera.
Do a quick introduction, jump into what you plan to teach (only one or two points from the blog post…not the whole thing!), then close with telling your watchers what they can do next! (Join your FB Group, check out more on the blog post, sign up for your newsletter, etc!). Facebook has been sending (so it seems) surges of extra traffic to the pages that use Facebook Live, so not only is this a great way to show your current audience your expertise and your personality…but it’s a fantabulous way to pick up new fans!!
AUDIO
This one is a little bit different, but I’ve seen it used withGREAT success!!! Have you ever thought of using audio? You can either use the audio in a podcast…or even as just a download on your blog!! I don’t know about you guys…but narrating on audiobook has been on my bucket list for years. Soooo…this might be as close as I get!! If you have your beautifully written blog posts in audio format, they can be enjoyed by people on the road, people multi-tasking, and people who might not be able to consume them in their original format!
THE EBOOK
This one takes a little bit more time, but after you’ve written six or seven blog posts around the same topic, you can combine them into an ebook! I recommend using this as a paid product on your website. I use systems like Apple Pages and Canva to write, organize and design my ebooks and PDF’s.
Let me be a little bit clear here. When I say “eBook”, I mean a book that consists of anywhere between 35-150 pages. You do NOT have to have a 200+ page book in order for it have a price tag!! In fact, some of the best books I’ve bought and downloaded have been between the 35-45 page range.
You should NOT just take blog posts and squish them together, however. Just like a regular book, you’ll need to have segues between chapters, write a bio for yourself and business, have a cover, and add a few pages to promote your blog and website!
Also, if you’ve been creating workbook pdf’s for your blog posts…why not create an ultimate workbook!! *cough* Kind of like the SEO Workbook in the shop? *cough*
A NEW POST
Finally? A new post! Whaaaat??? We’ve made a full circle!!! Can you take parts of your blog post and go into even MORE detail? Can you create a whole NEW blog post? Pay attention to the questions or comments your followers asked on your last post! This can sometimes be a great starting off point for getting new material!!
If you have any reworking ideas for blog posts…add them in the comments section below!!! I would LOVE to see what other forms your work can take!!

Creating a Unique Small Business
June 24, 2025 at 5:03 pm[…] Re-work an older piece of content! - Did you post a video, write a blog post or send out a newsletter that had a better than average response rate? Can you create a blog series based on that? Elaborate on the topic and go into detail!! Remember…the more in depth, detailed and amazingly open your content is…the more your readers will love you. DON’T HOLD BACK YOUR BEST STUFF!!! […]
